KEY POINTS:
Microwave ovens which may give electric shocks to users are voluntarily being recalled by LG Electronics.
The ovens, manufactured between August 2007 and February 2008, are being recalled to repair a fault at no cost to the owners.
The company said in some cases an internal part of the unit may be loose which may cause an electrical short circuit which will trip the household's safety switch.
"In rare cases this may result in an electric shock to the user in households that do not have a safety switch," the company said.
"This issue does not affect other LG products."
LG Electronics would inspect and, if necessary, repair the unit at no cost to consumers.
Although any risk of electric shock was low, customers were asked to stop using the product until it had been inspected and repaired.
Customers with appliance model numbers MS-2346VR, MS2347GR, serial number range commencing 708 to 802 and manufactured between August 2007 to February 2008, should contact the Customer Information Line on 0508 643 156 to arrange for an appointment to service the appliance.
The company said it was liaising with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Ministry of Economic Development in relation to the recall process.
