A deep-seated fire in the roof of a popular fruit market in central Wellington which brought part of the city to a standstill is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault.
A fire communications spokesman said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
Ten appliances attended the blaze at Mr Chan's fruit market on Cable Street, which started before 10am today.
There were no reports of injuries but a number of roads were closed.
There had been partial damage to the mezzanine floor in the building which would require repair work but the building did not sustain any further damage, he said.
