Strathmore Park blogger Ian Apperley had predicted social media would be embraced by the politicians this election.
And sadly, he wrote this week, this had come to pass. "Tau Henare still seems to be the king of twits, John Key has turned into a spam bot, Russel Norman seems to tweet endlessly about how National just being in power increases the chances of natural disasters and oil spills," he wrote.
Indeed, Prime Minister John Key avoided TV and radio this week, instead upping his number of tweets from one most days to eight on Thursday.
Perhaps the Nats should have been keeping their eyes on the road.
Journalist Kim Baker Wilson tweeted from the election trail: "On Nat Party campaign bus. We've already driven into a parked car."
