An elderly woman who was hit by a car while carrying her grandson across a busy in South Auckland highway yesterday remains in a critical condition in the city's Middlemore Hospital today.
Police spokeswoman Angeline Barlow said the 68-year-old victim had multiple injuries and her situation was "still touch-and-go".
The woman was carrying her toddler grandson across Great South Rd in Otahuhu about 9am yesterday when the accident happened.
The toddler was also taken to hospital as a precaution, but escaped relatively unscathed.
Ms Barlow said police had spoken to the driver of a late model dark blue Holden Commodore, which was believed to have been involved in the incident.
Two other witnesses had also come forward to police, and investigations were continuing.
