Elderly woman run over

An elderly woman was badly injured after being hit by a car in Christchurch this morning.

The 70-year-old woman suffered head and back injuries after she was struck shortly after 11am on the intersection of Main North Rd and Prestons Rd in the Christchurch suburb Redwood, Constable Ross Kyle said.

She was taken to Christchurch hospital.

There was concern due to her age, Mr Kyle said.

The police serious crash unit was investigating.
