KEY POINTS:
An elderly woman killed in a two-car collision in Leamington, outside of Cambridge yesterday, has been named as Wilma Marr Voullaire, 81, of New Plymouth.
Ms Voullaire was travelling as a front seat passenger in a Nissan Pulsar when it collided with a Nissan Maxima at the intersection of Shakespeare and Lamb streets about 2.50pm.
The area where the crash happened was a 50km/h speed zone.
Police said initial indications were that the Pulsar failed to give way at an intersection, and was hit on the right side by the Maxima.
The Pulsar then hit a power pole.
Ms Voullaire died in the crash while the 82-year-old male driver received moderate injuries and is in Waikato Hospital's High Dependency Unit.
The occupants of the Maxima received only minor injuries.
