Elderly woman dies in house fire

An elderly woman is dead following a house fire in Invercargill this morning.


Emergency services were called to the house in Lorn St, east of the city, about 7.20am.


Four fire engines battled the blaze, which was still smouldering hours later, Invercargill senior station officer Allan Goldsworthy said.


Fire safety investigators were investigating the cause of the fire.
