An elderly woman has died after being hit by a van in Orewa this afternoon.
The woman was crossing the road when she was hit by the van at Hillary Square at around 1.30pm. Bystanders helped to provide first aid but she died on the scene.
It is believed the driver of the van was leaving the Hillary Square carpark and turned right onto the road before hitting the woman.
Police said the driver was very shaken.
A section of the road was cordoned off this afternoon as the Waitemata Serious Crash Unit carry carried out a scene examination.
