An elderly woman has died in hospital after being seriously burnt in a house fire in Manukau City this morning.
Emergency workers arrived at the Mangere house to find it burning fiercely. The badly burnt woman was treated at the scene and taken to Middlemore Hospital with burns to more than over 65 per cent of her body.
There was earlier confusion as to whether the woman had survived.
Emergency workers said the other three people in the house were also taken to hospital with burns and smoke inhalation. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The house was badly damaged.
