An elderly woman is in hospital after confronting a drunk man trying to break into her Glen Eden home last night.
Police were called to Routley Dr at 11.17pm after the man, who was not believed to be known to the woman, pushed her after she confronted him when he tried to enter her house.
The man left the scene but was tracked using a dog unit, found and arrested shortly before midnight.
He will appear this morning in Waitakere District Court charged with serious assault.
The woman was in a stable condition at North Shore Hospital this morning, a hospital spokesman said.
