Two elderly people have been taken to Wellington Hospital after the car they were in hit a power pole and landed on its side in Porirua.
The man and woman suffered moderate injuries in the crash, which happened about 12.40pm on Te Puke St, Titahi Bay and left the pole on a lean.
Emergency services had to wait for power to be shut off before they could rescue the patients from the vehicle.
"There's only one car involved, somehow it's managed to leave the road and hit the lamppost," Road Police Constable Andy Ramsbottom said.
He did not know how the car had left the road.
