A critically injured man had to be cut from his vehicle after a truck and car collided on State Highway 1 south of Whangarei.
The elderly man was treated before before being flown to Whangarei Hospital in a rescue helicopter.
Emergency services were removing crash debris from the scene about 17km south of Whangarei.
Parts of State Highway 1 could be closed until 5.30pm, according to Northland Police.
The crash happened near the highway's intersection with Cotton Road.
