Police are investigating the death of an 86-year-old Dunedin man who was hit by a car in Fairfield, Dunedin last night.
A St John spokeswoman said an ambulance was called about 7pm after a report of a car hitting a pedestrian on the corner of Flower St and Main South Rd.
The ambulance travelled to Dunedin Hospital with its sirens and lights on, as the man's condition deteriorated from serious to critical, she said.Senior Sergeant Brian Benn, of Dunedin, said the man died at Dunedin Hospital last night.
The driver of the vehicle was an 88-year-old Mosgiel man, who was not injured.
A lane of Main South Rd was closed last night as the serious crash unit examined the scene, he said.
