An elderly man is fighting for his life after his car crashed into a tree while he was driving in heavy rain near Pukekohe today.
The crash happened at the intersection of Tuakau and Buckland Roads about midday, police said. A man aged in his 80s who was in the vehicle was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition.
Crash investigator Constable Amy Weston said police were looking for more information on the vehicle leading up to the time it crashed.
"We are interested to hear from anyone who may have seen the black Isuzu Bighorn registration WE8279 in the areas of Pukekohe and Tuakau any time before the crash.
"This information will help us piece together the car's journey and establish the cause of the crash," she said.
