A man died in a car crash after he suffered a heart attack while driving near Auckland this afternoon.
The 80-year-old was driving on State Highway 1 south of Warkworth when he is believed to have suffered a heart attack, police said.
The man's partner was the only passenger. She was uninjured.
An off-duty police officer witnessed the crash and carried out CPR until an ambulance arrived, but the man could not be revived.
SH1 has re-opened.
The crash brings the holiday road toll, which began at 4pm yesterday, to two.
A man was killed after the car he was in rolled on SH2 in Waikato at 4.30am today.
