Wairarapa-Bush's glamour club rugby side will be strutting their stuff at Memorial Park in Masterton on Saturday as part of the WBRFUs 125th birthday celebrations.
The Eketahuna women's team, which has already picked up the Fleurs Trophy this season for being the leading team at the end of one complete round of matches in Wellington premier division play, will take on Petone in a match scheduled to kick off at 11.30am.
Eketahuna will be at full strength and include current Black Fern squad members first-five Rebecca Mahoney and midfielder Shakira Baker, in a game which will count towards the most-prized trophy in the capital, the Victoria Tavern Cup.
And as coach Sid Tatana is quick to point out, they will need to be right on their mettle to beat a Petone side that inflicted the only defeat they suffered in the Fleur Trophy series.
"They [Petone] have improved a lot this season and while we were missing a few of our key players last time you couldn't take anything away from them," Tatana said. "They have a good balance between backs and forwards and they'll be fired up, you can bet on that."
Tatana is optimistic, however, that Eketahuna, which defeated Old Boys University 63-0 last weekend, will be able to utilise the flair and inventiveness of a backline spearheaded by Mahoney, Baker and ex-New Zealand rugby league rep Maia Tua-Davidson to beat off the Petone challenge.
"It's all about getting a reasonable supply of quality ball, do that and we should be okay," he said.
