Eketahuna duo Emma Aldworth and Shakira Baker grabbed the limelight as their Wellington Pride women's rugby team beat Hawke's Bay 34-3 in a NPC match played in Napier on Saturday.
Aldworth, playing at No8, made several strong runs in broken play, many of them covering 40-50m, and was just as prominent with the surety of her close quarter defence.
Baker had a relatively quiet first half in the midfield but provided the most thrust to the Wellington attack, scoring two tries and seldom failing to break the advantage line.
Wellington skipper Rebecca Mahoney said her side was kept honest by Hawke's Bay when they faced the wind in the first half and led by just 5-0 at the break. However, it was a different story in the second spell with the Wellington forwards dominating possession and the backs showing good combination on attack.
Wellington play Canterbury in Wellington this coming Saturday with the winner set to meet unbeaten Auckland in the competition grand final. Seven Eketahuna players are in the Wellington squad.
