Don't ask Eketahuna women's rugby coach Sid Tatana who scored the tries in his side's 88-0 walloping of Old Boys University in Wellington on Saturday.
"Quite honestly I couldn't keep up, they were coming so thick and fast," Tatana said yesterday.
"I know we got 14 in all but who got them ... no, I'm not sure. They were pretty well shared around I think."
While pleased with his way his team had gone about their business of dominating possession and allowing their backs to impose themselves on what was a very tentative OBU defensive screen, Tatana emphasised the final scoreline had to be seen in the proper context.
"They (OBU) didn't offer much, if we hadn't given them a decent hiding it would have been disappointing," he said. "We pretty much had all the ball and heaps of time to do something with it, we couldn't help but score a lot of tries"
Flanker Sharne Waru was a standout for Eketahuna up front while Raylene Reiri and newcomer Sharon Marshall filled in at prop and both had strong games. Calling the tune in the backs was the midfield of Maia Tua-Davidson and Shakira Baker both of whom featured in numerous dazzling breaks, many of them starting from well inside their own territory.
Eketahuna maintain their second place on the competition table. On Saturday they will host leaders-and defending champions Norths at Eketahuna.
Tatana doesn't need to be told that the quality of opposition there will be worlds apart from that provided by OBU and while he is confident of a bold showing from a full strength Eketahuna line-up he has seen Norths play often enough to predict a battle royal.
"They are a very good unit, they have big, mobile forwards who look to wear you down," Tatana said of Norths
"We will probably be smarter and faster than them in the backs but it all depends on how much quality ball we get."
