An eight-year-old boy is in a stable condition after he was knocked down by a van which did not stop in the south Auckland suburb of Manurewa today.
Police said the boy was crossing Swallows Rd about 8.30am with his sister when he was hit by the van. His sister was not hurt.
He was taken to Middlemore Hospital with moderate head injuries and was in a stable condition.
Police said the man driving the van fled but later went to the police and had been interviewed and a decision on charges would be made once the Serious Crash Unit had investigated the incident.
Anyone who saw the incident was asked to call police.
Police said they were particularly interested in speaking to a woman driving a silver car near the incident.
