Eggs delightful way to start day

This Friday is World Egg Day and local free range producer Chris Martin from Wairarapa Eggs is teaming up with Clareville Bakery to have a Wairarapa EggFest for kids.

The EggFest will take place from 8am-10.30am at the recently opened bakery to support latest research showing protein is best for breakfast.

Kids under the age of 13 can pay a gold coin donation for some scrambled free range eggs on freshly baked ciabatta at the bakery.

The bakery expects around 100 children to take part.

"It's a great way to celebrate the last day of school holidays, World Egg Day and the fact that eggs are the ideal way for kids to start the day" said Chris Martin.

A recently released Eggs Inc New Zealand Breakfast Survey, conducted in August by Horizon Research showed that 89 per cent of people surveyed eat breakfast. However, 50 per cent of Kiwis choose to start the day with toast.

It has been a big year for Mr Martin who has also recently been elected on the Executive Committee of the NZ Egg Federation.

At 27, he is the youngest to be on the committee.
