Motorists on Auckland's Southern Motorway had to contend with a slippery problem this morning.
A load of eels and the water they were being carried in was strewn across a lane at the bottom of the Bombay Hills, making a 300 metre section of the road slippery. An off ramp and one lane is closed.
New Zealand Transport Agency spokesman Ewart Barnsley said it was not known how the cargo came to be on the road.
"There's no sign of any truck and no sign of anyone scratching their head wondering where their juice has gone to."
It will take a few of hours to clean up the mess as specialist equipment has to be brought in.
