Saturday's competition was a par round, and the weather appeared to have an effect on the standard of scoring, as the best score for the day was only 2 up.
That was the score returned by Kip Edmonds in taking out the lower handicap group, with Rose Alexander in second place on 1 up, while both Rob McKelvey and Wayne Karaitiana finished on square. Lukies Lucy Last went to Michelle Coley, with her score of 10 down only just heading off a couple of other contenders.
In the second group, there were four players who had scores of 1 up ? Doug Leach, Bill Leahy, Laurence Butler and Syd Whittington, with the results placing them in that order. Holes in two were scored by Matthew Biel, Shane Stewart and heather Ousey.
The Solway Pie Shop nearest to the pin on the first hole and the Alistar Bruce Affordable Shed's one on the tenth hole were struck by Doug Leach. Rose Alexander took out the Mitre 10 one on the third hole, Kevin Gibbs the McAuleys Transport one on the sixth hole, Graeme Dick the Solway Butchery one on the eighth hole, and Shane Stewart the Social Committee one on the seventeenth hole.
Sunday saw three teams involved in inter club competitions, and the results were mixed.
The women's Tilson Salver team played Carterton at the Castlepoint Golf Club, and again the result was a very good one for the team, with the final scoreline being 5 matches to 1. That result has the team at the top of the table.
The Junior Pennants team played against Featherston, and the result was a close loss. The third team was the men's team playing in the Wairarapa Team Stableford competition at the Carterton Golf Club. I understand the team finished a distant fifth, around 40 points less than the winners Eketahuna.
With so many involved in inter club competitions, it was a relatively small field that played in Sunday's medal round competition. Brian Chappell led the way with a score of 67 nett, with Lance Duckett taking second place on 71 nett. David O'Reilly headed off Rob McKelvey, Kevin May and Bryan Dick of those on 73 nett to make it into the prizes. Lance Duckett and Bryan Dick scored the only holes in two for the day's competition.
The weather won the day on Tuesday, with the veterans group cancelling their competition. But, weather permitting, they will be in action again next Tuesday, when the competition is a stableford round, which is the first round for the Haddon Donald trophy.
On Saturday, the men are to play the semi-finals of the Dove Trophy and Nichol Cup competitions, while for the others not involved in the matches, there is the third round of the Clarke Rosebowl. For the women, Saturday is a LGU round, as well as the third round of the nett Aggregate competition, and a Shoot Out qualifying round.
Sunday has the course closed for the Men's Marquis Shield competition. Mahunga have their perennial bogey team Eketahuna to play, and they will be hoping that the home course advantage will help them climb off the bottom of the table.
Easter is fast approaching, and the field for Mahunga's Easter tournament is starting to fill up quite nicely, with tee off times from 11am to mid-day almost filled up already, so, if you are intending to play, it would pay to get your names in quickly.
