Ed Sheeran most popular on iHeartRadio

Ed Sheeran topped the charts.

He made his international acting debut with Shortland Street cameo, sold out tickets to his New Zealand tour in minutes and now British singer Ed Sheeran has notched up another Kiwi success - he was the most popular artist and song on digital radio service iHeartRadio.

New Zealand Media and Entertainment's iHeartRadio has marked its first full year with a list of the most popular artists and songs for the year.

Sheeran was the number one artist and Don't took number one song. He also had three songs in the Most Requested Top 10 list.

NZME. group director strategy and operations Carolyn Luey said Sheeran had performed a free concert on iHeartRadio to launch his new album "so there's little surprise to us that Ed holds the number one spot. Kiwis simply love him."

Chart-topping Shore girl Lorde she was the second-most listened to artist.

Luey said iHeartRadio's launch event was Lorde's first big concert. "You could say iHeartRadio NZ and Lorde have grown up together."

She said iHeartRadio, which has access to more than 20 million songs and 1900 radio stations, had amassed more than 250,000 registered users and 300,000 app downloads.

The remainder of the top 10 was Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith and Rod Stewart.

Sheeran was also the most streamed artist internationally on Spotify.
