Dalefield could feel satisfied with their 4-1 win over Indians in their Wellington premier division women's hockey match at Wellington in Saturday.
With a number of their players only completing commitments with the Wairarapa under-18 team some 90 minutes before game start Dalefield coach Andy Wilson elected to make full use of the substitution rule and, consequently, combinations were changed from time to time.
"Considering the circumstances we coped well???we picked up the maximum points and that's what we were there for,," Wilson said.
The Dalefield coach also paid tribute to Indians, saying that although they languished at the bottom of the competition table they were probably the most improved team in the premier division series.
"You used to think you'd get double figures against them but they're a much better team now," he said
Wairarapa under-18 skipper Elizabeth Perry scored one of the Wairarapa goals with others going to Rachel Dent, Courtney McGregor and Ana Playle.
The news was not so good for the Dalefield men's team in their Wellington premier division match against Indians at Clareville.
Indians, the warm favourites for the title, won 2-0 but were kept honest by a Dalefield side which created some prime scoring chances but couldn't get the ball into the back of the net.
Statistics showed that Indians forced 12 penalty corners during the course of the game and scored from two of them while Dalefield had eight penalty corners and scored from none.
Goalkeeper Alan Brady came through a busy game for Dalefield with flying colours and the standout in the forward line was Marcus Emery.
In a quirk of the draw Dalefield play Indians against next weekend with coach Laurie Juno faced with the prospect of having up to five players not available because of other commitments.
Easy for Dalefield
