Much of the same is expected down the coast to Wairarapa.
Auckland and western areas will also be warm but may get a few showers.
The wettest areas are most likely to be Fiordland and Westland, as a front arrives late on Friday and another on Monday morning.
Those in the South Island's east coast are in for a mixed weekend, with warm northwesterlies ahead of both fronts, before a blast of cooler air from southerly changes.
However, Easter Sunday is forecast to be the best day of the break for most of the country, when a ridge produces fine weather.
Not much isgoing on weather-wise today, Loots said.
"The front that has been moving up the country over the past week has weakened and is over central North Island.
"It is very slow-moving today, and there will be periods of rain in Manawatu through Waikato."
It is forecast to move into Taupo, Bay of Plenty, East Coast areas over the next 12 hours, but to further weaken with occasional rain.
Auckland and Northland are in for relatively fine days today, with just a few isolated showers. Wellington should be mainly fine today.
The South Island is in for a pretty nice day, with just some high cloud and rain early in Southland but clearing this morning.
Tomorrow the weakened front moves into Auckland and Bay of Plenty bringing a few showers.
A warm northwest flow moves over the South Island ahead of a front making landfall in Fiordland and Westland in the evening bringing periods of rain.
The West Coast, from Fiordland to Buller, are in for rain Saturday morning and showers over the rest of the day.
In the eastern South Island, Canterbury may get some spillover rain from the front, and there will be a cold southerly change in the afternoon.
"As the southerly arrives across the South Island it will feel quite a bit colder than the past few days," Loots said.
The North Island will stay protected from the front, enjoying mostly fine, warm weather on Saturday.
Northwesterlies are forecast to strengthen in the lower North Island before the front arrives late evening, bringing a period of rain to lower and western areas.
On Sunday a big high pressure system spreads over the country, bringing light winds.
"Sunday is looking like the day of the weekend for most places," Loots said.
On Monday morning another front makes landfall in the southern South Island, however it won't be as strong as the previous one.
It will be mostly fine for those driving home on Monday, unless you are driving from the South Island's west of south coasts.
The front is forecast to move over most of the South Island by Monday night, but will only really affect Southland and the West Coast, with persistent rain - chance heavy - developing.
"For the rest of the country, Monday isn't looking too bad," Loots said.
