The Easter holiday road toll now stands at three after a 19-year-old man was killed in a crash in Otago this morning.
The crash happened about 5.45am as a single vehicle left the road on State Highway 83 in Otekaieke, 54km northwest of Oamaru, police said.
The two occupants had to be cut from the vehicle and a 19-year-old man died at the scene. A second man was taken to Dunedin hospital in a serious condition.
Police from Oamaru and Kurow were investigating the crash along with the serious crash unit.
The accident comes after a man died after an allegedly stolen car crashed in Wellington overnight.
The crash happened on Fraser Avenue about 1.45am in the suburb of Johnsonville, police said.
The driver of the Subaru stationwagon, which was earlier allegedly stolen from a nearby address, was killed in the accident as the car overturned. Three other occupants were injured in the crash.
Speed and alcohol were believed to have been a factor.
Police are yet to identify the dead man, described as being in his teens or early twenties.
In the weekend's other road fatality a 50-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle and a vehicle towing a horse float collided north of Wairoa, northern Hawke's Bay about 6pm yesterday.
