The discovery of the body of an 18-year-old motorist and his car down a bank between Gisborne and Wairoa today has brought the Easter road toll to 11.
The car was found on Tiniroto Rd, 41km inland from Gisborne, and could have crashed on Sunday night, said acting Senior Sergeant Trent Higgs of Gisborne police.
Details of the find were a bit sketchy and a police serious crash unit was on the way to investigate, he said.
The driver had been identified and next of kin were being contacted.
The Easter toll of 11 was the worst since 1993.
