Two earthquakes have struck the east North Island this morning.
At 2am, a magnitude 5.3 quake was centred 30km east of Murupara and 60km south of Whakatane, according to GeoNet. It was 60km deep.
The Fire Service had not received any reports of damage.
A magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit near Gisborne shortly before 8am. GeoNet data indicated it was centred 20km northwest of the city, at a depth of 30km.
