An 5.8 magnitude earthquake has struck off the North Island's coast overnight.
It hit at a depth of 160 kilometres and was located 110 kilometres north east of White Island and 270 kilometres east of Auckland at 11.42 last night.
Geonet said the earthquake was felt from the Bay of Plenty to Hawkes Bay.
