Earthquake shakes West Coast

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck the central South Island early today.

GNS Science said the quake occurred at 4.24am, 20km south-east of Harihari, near Hokitika, at a depth of 5km.

It was possibly felt in the central South Island, GNS said.
