Fiordland was shaken by an earthquake this afternoon, the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences (GNS) said.
An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale hit 40km north-west of Te Anau at a depth of 80km at 1.45pm.
The quake could have been felt in Te Anau, GNS Science said.
