A magnitude 4.0 earthquake has rattled Christchurch at 3.47pm this afternoon.
The quake was centred 20 kilometres east of Christchurch, 20 kilometres east of Belfast and 20 kilometres north-east of Lyttelton at a depth of 11 kilometres.
