Hastings had a rocky start to the morning after an earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck shortly after 8am.
The quake, 20km south-east of Hastings, was widely felt across the Hawkes Bay, with reports on the GeoNet website coming in from Otane to Napier.
The GeoNet website lists the quake as having a focal depth of 40km and had attracted over 50 reports from households within 45 minutes.
