The Sky Tower, the Beehive and even Te Puke's giant kiwifruit will all be plunged into darkness tonight.
They are among a number of kiwi landmarks where the lights will be turned out to mark Earth Hour at 8.30pm.
New Zealand will be the first of 125 countries and territories across all seven continents taking part in the initiative to highlight climate change.
A total of 47 cities and towns around the country will take part in Earth Hour, now in its fourth year.
The government of the tiny low-lying nation of Tuvalu, said to be in danger of being swamped by rising sea levels, will cut power to the entire country.
Global landmarks where the lights will also go out include the Great Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, The Acropolis, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Not to be outdone by the global icons, Paeroa will flick the switch on its giant L&P bottle.
