Some Canterbury residents were shaken awake by a 3.8 magnitude quake at 5.35am this morning.
It was 15km deep and centred in Pegasus Bay, off the coast of Parklands.
It follows a magnitude 4.0 earthquake which rattled Christchurch at 3.47pm yesterday afternoon.
That quake was centred 20kms east of Christchurch, 20kms east of Belfast and 20kms north-east of Lyttelton at a depth of 11kms.
