KEY POINTS:
Residents of a Wairarapa rest home were evacuated early this morning when fire broke out.
The blaze started in the switchboard at Greytown's Palliser Rest Home and Hospital at 2am and spread to the ceiling.
Thirty people were evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished.
The building suffered only smoke damage and residents were able to return within a few hours.
