KEY POINTS:
The man accused of attacking Hawke's Bay Today reporter Doug Laing made a short appearance in court yesterday before being flown to Wellington for a psychiatric assessment.
Leua Antonio Teki, 27, of Lower Hutt, was initially charged with burglary and wounding with intent in connection with the assault on Mr Laing, 51, at his home early Friday morning.
Mr Laing had part of an ear bitten off and an eye gouged.
The wounding charge has since been changed to intending to cause grievous bodily harm and causing grievous bodily harm.
Charges for resisting police and assaulting a police officer have also been added.
He was flown to Wellington yesterday afternoon to undergo a psychiatric assessment.
His lawyer Philip Jenson said he was unfit to make a plea.
He will appear again on April 4.
