E coli found in trust's water

The water supply of a Waiheke Island health organisation was found to contain a bug that can indicate faecal contamination.

The Health Ministry said in its annual report on drinking water quality yesterday that the Waiheke Health Trust in Ostend failed a test for E coli bacteria in 2004.

It was one of four health and hospital services in the country that failed to comply with drinking water standards.
