KEY POINTS:
If there is such a thing as a "driver-oriented" Rolls Royce, this is it - the new Phantom coupe. The two-door version of the enormous Phantom sedan has returned for a different on-road experience, with the company's chief designer, Ian Cameron, who says Rolls-Royce "has always been about pace, performance and style".
"For the coupe design we gave the quintessential design a dynamic twist. This adds a sense of drama to the outstanding engineering and drivability that are fundamentals of [our] cars. The dynamic drive of the Phantom has always come as a surprise to customers and the coupe takes it a step further."
The Phantom coupe is an old-school luxury car designed to cover trans-continental distances with ease. It borrows its 6.75-litre V12 engine from the sedan, but an extra 25 per cent fuel-tank capacity increases its range.
The coupe has rear-hinged "coach" doors to ease access to the rear seats. They also aid overall stiffness, allowing for an uninterrupted A-pillar. A brushed steel finish of A-pillar and bonnet, as seen for the first time on the 100EX concept, is also available.
