KEY POINTS:
The man police allege shot at them during a routine traffic stop in Auckland earlier this month had his hands handcuffed in front of him when he appeared in Waitakere District Court today.
Richard Alan Duthie, 40, earlier described as armed and dangerous, appeared in court today after armed police arrested him in an apartment building in the Auckland suburb of Grafton at 4.30am.
Police said he resisted arrest but no shots were fired.Two pistols were located within the apartment raided this morning along with a substantial amount of cash.
He had been on the run since September 3 when he allegedly shot at police who stopped him in suburban Swanson.
Today, he appeared in court on six charges including possession of a Beretta pistol, a Glock pistol, and an unknown pistol, possession of ammunition, using a firearm against police and assaulting police with a firearm.
He was remanded in custody until October 15.
For other charges which he failed to appear on in the Rotorua High Court, he was remanded to appear again on October 11.
A female associate charged with helping Duthie avoid arrest was also remanded on bail to appear on October 15.
Judge Lisa Tremewan granted name suppression to the woman after her lawyer said her young children would be traumatised if they learnt of her name and the charge through the news media.
The officer in charge of the hunt for Duthie, Detective Inspector Steve Wood earlier said "This arrest is extremely satisfying and it came about as a result of superb detective work from a small inquiry team that was well supported by various specialist police squads and members of the community.
"In my view the safety of both police and the public has been significantly enhanced by this arrest."
