Postings to a Netherlands newspaper website show most Dutch readers still think New Zealand is safe to visit despite the kidnapping ordeal of two tourists in the Far North at the weekend.
Comments posted on the Amsterdam-based newspaper De Telegraaf's website showed people were revolted by the attacks, but most did not hold it against New Zealand.
"We travelled around the North and South Islands for two months in a campervan this year. There were parts where you would go for hours without seeing anyone, but we didn't feel unsafe at any time and the hospitality is huge," said Simon and Marja of Schiedam.
"We went through places that are off the beaten track as well as the busiest cities during our campervan trip from the bottom of the South Island to the top of the North Island," said FM van der Heijden of Berlicum.
"We found only friendly, helpful people. This couple simply had the terrible luck to come across a pair of idiotic beasts in such a peace loving country."
Said HG of The Hague: "Awful. Unimaginable. I can only say to have strength and support in each other, and let us hope that these beasts will get their punishment."
