A set of duplicate medals has been lent to the Waiouru Army Museum until the originals, stolen in the medal heist 10 days ago, can be found and returned.
About 100 medals, valued at millions of dollars, were stolen in the raid on December 2.
Doug Elliott has loaned duplicate medals that belonged to his father, Keith Elliott, to the museum.
Keith Elliott's original medals, including a Victoria Cross, were among the 100 stolen.
Museum spokesman Kevin Farrington said the duplicate medals were made for Keith Elliott when he accompanied then Prime Minister Keith Holyoake to London.
"The originals had already been given to Feilding High School and Keith Elliott didn't want to take them back for the trip," Mr Farrington said.
He said the museum and its staff were "very appreciative" of Doug Elliott's loan.
"They're more than just duplicates," he said.
Doug Elliott said the loan was in support of the museum's role to exhibit the "artefacts of our forebears".
He spent time at the museum showing staff many albums of his father, his father's fellow VC friends and other soldiers.
Keith Elliott won his VC at Ruweisat in Egypt's Western Desert in 1942 when, although wounded, he led his men up a hill to knock out German machine-gun posts and capture 130 prisoners.
