Two brothers arrested last night in Taupo were charged with assault, intimidation and possession of offensive weapons, with one pleading guilty.
Saul Rerekura, 26, and Waylon Rerekura, 24, appeared in Taupo District Court today in front of Judge Patrick Treston.
Saul Rerekura was convicted and remanded in custody for a probation officer's report and sentencing, after pleading guilty to assault, possession of offensive weapons - hunting knives - and intimidation.
He will reappear on August 26.
Waylon Rerekura was charged with intimidation, assault and possession of a screwdriver as a weapon.
He was remanded without plea until August 12.
Police opposed bail and said he had a "shocking list of convictions for a young person".
The prosecutor said he had a history of violence and recidivist offending.
They were arrested after officers responded to a report of an assault about 5pm yesterday.
There had been earlier reports of drunken men making a nuisance of themselves in the area.
