Dunedin teacher referred to disciplinary tribunal

A Dunedin teacher who resigned from her job after admitting to a sexual relationship with a pupil has had her case officially referred to the industry disciplinary body.

The woman, who the Herald has chosen not to name, quit King's High School amid rumours nude photographs of her were being shared by pupils on social media.

She admitted to school principal Dan Reddiex that she had been involved in an "inappropriate relationship of a sexual nature with a senior student" last year.

It came after she had originally "vehemently denied" accusations she was involved with a student earlier in the year.

It later emerged she had been in relationships with two pupils at the school - however the school said it was confident one of those relationships took place after the 18-year-old boy left school, and had not started while he was a pupil.

The teacher had been reported to the Education Council - formerly the Teachers' Council - which today confirmed her case had now been referred to the disciplinary tribunal.

However, no date has yet been set for her disciplinary hearing.
