A police pursuit of a speeding vehicle near Dunedin this morning ended in a crash.
A police car began pursuing a speeding late-model Holden on State Highway 1 about 9.30am, Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd of Dunedin police said.
The Holden pulled a u-turn and overtook a truck before the driver lost control and crashed in a rest area.
The driver was not injured but the car was extensively damaged.
A 35-year-old Tauranga man was due to appear in Dunedin District Court this afternoon charged with dangerous driving and an outstanding matter from Tauranga.
Inquiries into ownership of the car were ongoing and further charges may be laid, Mr Lloyd said.
