Dunedin man bashed with a hammer

A 39-year-old man is in hospital with facial injuries after he was bashed with a hammer near Dunedin yesterday.

The man was assaulted at a house on Carlyle Road in Mosgiel, 15km west of Dunedin, about 8pm.

Senior Sergeant Brian Benn told NZPA the man received a "good beating". He was repeatedly punched and hit with a hammer.

He was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

Two men from Mosgiel have been arrested and charged with serious assault.

They are to appear at the Dunedin District Court this morning.
