Health bosses have been urged to halve the list of 1000 operations planned to be cancelled at Dunedin Hospital.
The hospital advisory committee says surgery and procedures should be cut by 565, meaning about 430 people who thought they had missed out will get operations before June 30.
The Otago District Health Board will make the final decision on May 1.
