A bus driver's spontaneous detour has come to a unplanned halt at a hairpin turn in Dunedin's Northeast Valley.
The driver was about to begin his school run this afternoon and decided to detour up Buccleugh St, a narrow winding road which has been the undoing of a number of buses and trucks over the years.
The Ritchies bus lost traction at a hairpin turn halfway up the road and is now stuck against a crash barrier.
Attempts by a tow truck to move the bus have been unsuccessful.
The bus was dragged clear of the corner about 5.45pm.
