Three of Dunedin's most popular beaches were declared safe for swimming again today after seaborne sewage forced their closure.
Dunedin City Council shut down St Kilda, St Clair and Middle beaches to the public two days ago after elevated levels of bacteria were detected.
But a city council spokeswoman told NZPA test results today were all clear and the beaches had been declared safe for swimming, surfing and paddling.
It was the second time this month that the beaches had been closed due to high seas blowing seaborne sewage inshore
The spokesman said weekly sampling would continue until March.
