Hunters will be allowed to shoot ducks at Wellington's southernmost regional park for the first time in an effort to keep the number of introduced ducks in check.
Park users are being warned to stick to the tracks while hunting is allowed at Baring Head East Harbour Regional Park, 15km south of Wainuiomata, between May 4 to June 30.
They are also being warned to expect to hear shots, particularly in the morning and evening.
Greater Wellington Regional Council, which was working with Fish and Game to allow shooting in the park, said the hunting would be closely monitored.
Up to six hunters would be allowed to shoot ducks at any one time, but they must not hunt within 100m exclusion zones around bridges and walking tracks.
